Neonatologist?

Today is my last day in the NICU, starting next Monday, I'll be posted back to the 5A ward. Honestly, I feel sad because I really enjoyed it here in the NICU, the work burden is less but I have to do more thinking here. But of course, there are days when it's so busy that I have lunch at 3 pm... it was quite a while ago. And poking small babies are much more easier, hehe, because their skin are so thin that I can see whether the needle is in or not. It's the branula part that is challenging because the babies move a lot. Many times I find myself getting pissed at the babies because they keep on kicking their tiny legs that the branula just fall off and I have to set a new line. Some babies are easy, some are just so challenging. I wonder how Monday is going to be. I have refresh back my knowledge on bigger kids, especially the doses of antibiotics!

Being here made me reconsider my career path, I felt like becoming a neonatologist. The main pushing factor is that there is no surgery and I want to do surgeries.... so that makes ophthalmology my no. 1 choice.

I just love the feeling of excitement of going to work every morning and seeing that my patient has improved. It is a good feeling and very addictive too. Recently, one of my chronic patient was discharged, he was born flat and diagnosed with perinatal asphyxia, then he developed nosocomial pneumonia, then later developed chronic lung disease secondary to recurrent pneumonia. He finished many courses of antibiotics. Alhamdulillah, he progressed really well, he managed to breathe properly without oxygen therapy, so he was discharged after 40 days in the ward (since birth). I pray that he grows up to be a good boy. I was glad that he didn't need home oxygen therapy. :D

I'm on call again tomorrow. Another weekend call. I cannot wait for the next weekend because I get my weekend off. It's for Tiyah's wedding reception.

Ok, have a nice weekend everyone!
