I was really nervous to think about me being on call, when I'm all alone, taking care of 2 wards! I started my first call last Friday... I was happy about the fact that I'm finally off-tagged, because I get to go back at 5pm instead of 10.30pm everyday! Life as a tagger was so tiring, I was at the hospital by 7am and leave around 10.30pm (the earliest) and again, the same schedule the next day. That's why I vowed to myself, I'm only going to tag for 2 weeks, I will try my best so that the specialist in charge allowed me to start my first call.
My first on call didn't go so bad, I only got to sleep for 30 minutes that night! Haha.. There weren't many admissions, but I blame it on my lack of ability to organize my work. First timer, so what do you expect right? The regular blood taking for the Dengue patients went chaotic! For Dengue patients, we monitor their FBC (full blood count) every 4 hours or 6 hours, depending on their severity... so I have to syringe out the blood around 2am or 4am... depending on the time planned. Besides the Dengue patients, if there are new admissions, I'd have to clerk and manage them. That night, there were only 4 admissions, which is too little amount to keep me awake all night! But deep in my heart, I know I will get better at it!
